History
In the early 1960s, breeders of American Shorthair trying to strengthen the breed began making outcrosses with Persians. As a result, new kittens were marvellous with a completely different appearance. It was a shock and a kind of breakthrough between breeders. That’s why, breeders made a decision to work on a new breed and to call it – the Exotic Shorthair. In 1967 the Exotic Shorthair was officially recognized as a breed.
These Exotic Shorthair cats come in all colors. Truly speaking, the Burmese, British and American Shorthair, even Russian Blues lines were to introduce the short coat. But nowadays, the only one possible and acceptable outcross is with Persian.
