Very very funny funny fish

First of all, fishes are amazing animals, they can vary in size and shape, have different coloring, scales and behavior. A lot of words were told about them, different people treat fishes in different ways: some buy them and make aquariums, some eat them, some capture them and go fishing, some create special aqua parks in order to prevent their dying.

When I was asked to give the definition of a word “fish”, I even didn’t know what to answer and then after a couple of minutes, I gave such an interpretation. A fish is an animal with scales and fins, they live in water, have no lungs, they breathe with a help gills. But such a definition is not correct from the scientific point of view – because, for example, eels – have no fins. There are a lot of species of fish and a lot of classes of fishes. I like exotic fishes very much. They are very beautiful and even can smile.

“Fish” theme is a commonly-used theme. Let’s remember mermaids – girls half-fishes or the “great fish”, that swallowed up Prophet Jonah. The were Saint people that were able to take fish-like appearance: Ika-Roa, Matsya. There is an astrological sign – called Pisces and in the sky we can see a constellation with this title. A lot of cartoons made fishes their main heroes: Finding Nemo, The Mermaid, Shark Tale.

Lovely clown fishes

Have you ever heard something about deep sea fishes? They are very interesting creatures, while looking at them, you can think that they are not from this planet. Actually, it is truth (to some extent). Such fishes swim below the photic zone of the ocean, sometimes there is no natural illumination there, so in order to see the prey and to be able to survive in these severe conditions, these fishes got very strange body and extremely large eyes. Unfortunately, scientist can’t study them thoroughly because these fishes are not able of living in unnatural conditions.

And now tell me, please, how do fishes move? With a help of fins! Yeah? But there are some fishes, they are called “walking fishes” , which can travel over sea floor or land for rather long periods of time. The best representative in this category is a mud-skipper. Such fishes have a special respiratory system that allows them to live without water for a couple of days! Also, there are some fishes, which are still called walking, but their walking is limited to sea floor travelling.

Don’t forget, that Marine is not only a popular name but a first word of Marine Biology, a science that deals with fishes, their preservation. As you know, fishes and water is two inseparable parts – and the total amount of water on the Earth is nearly 1.4 billion km3 and only 3 percent is occupied with fresh (I mean not salt) water. And more than 70 percent of the Planet Earth is in water.

If you don’t have your own aquarium, visit any big aquarium at your city – you won’t be disappointed!

Penguins world

Penguins are one of the most well-known animals in the world. This is little funny bird. They are birds because they lay eggs, have feathers, and are warm-blooded animals. Most birds fly, but penguins do not fly. They use their flippers for swimming. Penguins are found in many different habitats, or places. They live from the frozen land of Antarctica to the sandy beaches of Africa. They live from the rocky coasts of South America to the coasts of New Zealand. Penguins have adapted to more habitats and climates than any other animal in the world. Penguins have long, flat flippers that help them swim and dive for fish, squid, and krill. They have very short legs that are set far back on their lower body. They stand upright and waddle when they walk.

Penguins are amazing swimmers. When penguins float they use their flippers to paddle through the water. When they dive and swim they use their flippers to fly through the water. They use their flippers for swimming like other birds use their wings for flying. Most penguins canSmall penguin dive very deep and can hold their breath for many minutes. They have large round eyes that help them to see in the dark water. Penguins can swim up to hundreds of miles in search of food. Penguins move over land by walking, jumping and sliding. Penguins that live on the ice can slide or go tobogganing on their bellies down hills and slopes. They lay down and push off with their flippers and slide across the ice. Penguins are also good jumpers. They can jump the height and width of their own bodies. They often hop or jump over rocks or holes.

There are 17 especes of penguins: Emperor, King, Rockhoppers, Gentoo, Magellanic, Galapagos, Adelie, African, Little, Royal, Yellow-eyed, Snares, Chinstrap, Humboldt, Macroni, Fiordland, Erect-crested.

REPRESENTATIVE OF AUSTRALIA

Koala

Go to Australia for visit a inhabitant of this territory. Everyone know beyond doubt who is. Yes of cause, it is koala. Koalas aren’t bears as many people are led to believe. They aren’t even related to bears. The koala is related to the kangaroo and the wombat. The koala is a mammal. The reason the koala is called a koala bear is because the koala looks like a teddy bear. The koala’s scientific name is Phasclarctos cinereus.

Today koalas live only in eastern Australia. Once millions roamed many areas of the country. By the early 1900s, hunters had shot most of them for their fur. Killing koalas is now illegal, but the koala population continues to decrease as houses and other development take over their habitat.

The koala is well suited to life in the trees. The koala has an excellent sense of balance and its body is lean and muscular and its quite long, strong limbs support its weight when climbing. The arms and legs are nearly equal in length and the koala’s climbing strength comes from the thigh muscle joining the shin much lower than in other animals.

The fur on the koala’s bottom is densely packed to provide a ‘cushion’ for the hard branches it sits on, and has a ‘speckled’ appearance which makes koalas hard to spot from the ground.

An adult male koala can weigh between 8 and 14 kilograms and a female between 6 and 11 kilograms.

The koala’s nose is one of its most important features, and it has a very highly developed sense of smell. This is necessary to differentiate between types of gum leaves and to detect whether the leaves are poisonous or not. The koala’s digestive system is especially adapted to detoxify the poisonous chemicals in the leaves.

Again koalaKoala seldom drinks water obtaining it from the eucalyptus leaves, which are 50% consisting of water. Although, they can drink water if due to drought the leaves water content is reduced.

Koalas consume eucalyptus leaves and bark from 12 different eucalyptus tree species. They also consume mistletoe and box leaves.

Each koala eats approximately 200 to 500 grams of leaves per day.

The young koala drinks only mother’s milk for the first six to seven months.

At about 30 weeks, it begins to feed upon a substance called “pap” which the mother produces in addition to milk. Pap is a specialized form of droppings, which forms an important part of the young koala’s diet, allowing it to make the transition from milk to eucalyptus leaves.

Pap is soft and runny. It allows the mother to pass on micro-organisms from her digestive system.

Koalas live in societies, just like humans, so they need to be able to come into contact with other koalas. It is because of this they need to have areas of suitable eucalypt forest which are large enough to support a healthy koala population and to allow for expansion by maturing young koalas. Koalas are highly territorial and in stable breeding groups, individual members of koala society maintain their own “home range” areas.
