Everyone knows that hummingbirds are the smallest birds in the world!
These enchanting birds are found in deserts, mountains, and plains, but most are found in the tropical rain forests. Their name refers to the humming sound made by their tiny beating wings.
They are known for their ability to hover in mid-air by rapidly flapping their wings, 15–80 times per second!!!

Amazing wings

There are more than 300 kinds of hummingbirds. Hummingbirds are called “nectivores” because about 90 percent of their diet is nectar from flowers)
The most interesting fact is that inspite of hummingbirds are small in size, they have large appetites. Hummingbirds consume between 3.14 and 7.6 calories a day. That may not seem like much, but if humans (who may eat 3,500 calories a day) had the metabolism of a hummingbird, they would have to consume approximately 155,000 calories a day. That’s about 77 times as much as most humans eat!!!

Big apetite

But inspite if variety of species, Hummingbirds are found only in the Americas. But Hummingbirds sometimes fly into garages and become trapped. It is widely believed that this is because they mistake the hanging (usually red-color) door-release handle for a flower, although hummingbirds can also get trapped in enclosures that do not contain anything red.

Once inside, they may be unable to escape because their natural instinct when threatened or trapped is to fly upward. This is a life-threatening situation for hummingbirds, as they can become exhausted and die in a relatively short period of time, possibly as little as an hour.
So be careful, please…

Coolest colored frogs

Most people DO believe that frogs are bad, they bring a lot of inconveniences and even warts. They live in marches and do nothing but spoiling our lives. But it is a disbelief, sometimes they can please our eyes.

Coolest colored frogs

Here we will talk about tropical frogs, they are colored, bright and draw attention every time you see them. Unfortunately, very often we spoil frogs lives much more often then they do. Some people even chase them. Very often we forget about our ecology, how drastic it is and feel no compassion to these small creatures, who are extremely vulnerable to any event occurring in the nature: climate, environmental conditions, urbanization. Many species became extinct, as they were not able to adopt to new living conditions. A lot of scientists, research establishments try to avoid this process and stop its development.

Coolest colored frogs

As an example, let’s take Dendrobatidae or commonly known as Dart-poison frogs, they live in American tropics and suffer from deforestation. Nowadays, there exist not more than 100 species of them, but these frogs are not capable of living under other natural conditions. One can say, they deserve dying! But it is unfair! These frogs are of great help to medicine. Yeah, no doubts, since the time immemorial, they have been producing a very toxic poison, small portion of this poison (not more than 1 or 2 usual salt grains) is enough to kill a person. Also, this poison was used by Indians to make poisonous arrows and to kill enemies. But, as scientist started studying them, they found out invaluable information about ingredients of their poison and about membrane functioning, because poison of some frogs strikes directly the membrane of a person and provokes apoplexy. Poison of some species can  kill 800 people.

Bodies of these frogs are covered with special liquid poison – it kills small insects and animals. But, 136 micro grams of this poison can kill a person. All poisonous frogs have bright colored appearances! WHY? Because in such a way they warn predators – don’t touch us, it can end awfully. So, it is a kind of protective-warning coloring.

Coolest colored frogs

Interesting fact! These frogs are not poisonous in captivity (zoos, research areas). Scientist can explain it as they don’t eat special insects, which provoke the producing of poison. The most dangerous frog in this family is a Golden Poison Dart Frog.

Chinchillas History

There are a great number of cute, thrilling animals. I am fond of them. But also, there are some cruel people, who use every possibility to hurt these animals and to leave them without their fur antypical chinchillad, what is even more awful, without their lives!

Have you ever seen a chinchilla? Have you ever seen a coat made from it? Just imagine, a minute ago it was fluffy, small and kind creature and just in a nick of time it turned into a pelt, valuable and warm, but still a pelt! Five minutes ago this chin was breathing, coughing, eating, and playing with its toys and then… I hate it!

So, my main aim here is not only to tell you about chinchillas, but to draw your attention to their lives and dangers around them! Pay attention, they need our help! Actually, their history in America started exactly from poaching, they were chased because of beautiful fur and only after some years they became popular as pets. Uninteresting fact! Approximately 100 chinchillas are needed to make one coat. In the 19th century (China) they became even endangered. Nowadays, chinchilla’ hunting is prohibited by law! But it doesn’t stop some people from killing these animals!

Pair_of_chinchillas Chinchillas are very popular nowadays, they live both in Zoos, stores and even at homes! But there are some strangers, they still don’t know, how do chinchillas look! It is a tricky question, I can give a lot of descriptions, but than you will be puzzled, so, one, but all-absorbing: chinchillas are cute creatures familiar to big squirrels with huge ears (like Cheburashkas).

Chinchilla! This name is of Indian origin and can be interpreted as “little chinta”. These creatures came to us from South America and they are widespread in Peru, Bolivia, and Chile. Thanks to Mr. Chapman they appeared in our lives, namely he brought them to our continent. Firstly, they were sold to fur farms and later they became popular pets. They turned to be loving, devoted and kind pets. Chins are very neat and clean pets; they don’t have any specific smell. They can talk, but their sounds are amazing, while eating, sleeping, chewing something. One more interesting fact – chinchillas are night creatures, they spend the whole day at rest (I mean they sleep), but they are awake at night. So, you can visit discos with your favorite pet! He or she will not fall asleep! Also, if you don’t want to have a long-term friend – forget about chinchillas! They live up to 20 years! Chinchillas adore company and they hate loud noises, don’t even dare shouting on them, they will get upset and, as a result, your chinchilla will become quiet and passive. Their popularity rises every day. In our country chinchillas cost more than 400 dollars.

Chinchilla

Of course, there are some people, who do care about them, but those chinchillas, who live in Zoos and other enclosures are completely different form wild chinchillas living in natural conditions. There they prefer caves and rock clefts.

As for me, I have a get and a dog! I adore them! They are so funny! I have never had a rat, a hamster oк a chinchilla, but I was always dream to. May be one day I will get one and now I can only admire with their owners and look at their pictures!
