More than 300 cats were rescued thanks to animal rights activists in Shanghai. All these cats were going to become food in prestigious Chinese restaurants. I can’t believe it, but such a practice is still popular nowadays.
The activists found 22 bamboo cages filed to capacity with cats in a yard, and they were to be shipped to Guangdong province. When the cats were rescued most of them were returned to owners and some, unfortunately, died.
The cages were really small and sometimes there were more than 20 cats in a single cage. In a couple of days all cats could have become a local soup called ‘Tiger vs. Dragon’ which is made with snake and cat. Restaurant owners pay about $8 a cat.
Unfortunately there are no laws in China which protect animals and pets, as well as their owners. However, all is well that ends well.

Just because yuor culture think of cats as pets or wild animals doesn’t mean other cultures are thinking the same ways. Snakes, cats, dogs is a part of Chinese cultural food heritage, so please donĀ“t claim you have all the answers yourself
ReplyWell, from the article it sounds like many of the cats were stolen from their owner as “they were returned to their owners”. BIG problem.
