i have one chinchila that i kind of save it from his previous owner, he was just locked up on a cage in a warehouse, and he only fed him once a week… so i felt sorry for the little guy e said that i would take it if he was ok with it… how i regret this this action of pity… the most stupid, vicious, passive-agressive pet i’ve ever seen!!! for all the people that want a chinchila… it’s a terrible pet. u cant touch it, u cant pet it, and e dont shows love for you… why should u get a pet that is not a pet?

I love this site. I hate how ppl think it’s right to kill chinchillas for thier fur that’s just crule and wrong! I have 5 chinchillas and I would never do nething to hurt ne of them I love all of them.. Except for one . But that’s because she’s vicious and doesn’t like ppl but I still love her even though she bites me lol

Hi just to say that i found your article about chinchillas really touching. I live on a farm and we have about 45 baby chinchillas. My little sister Angie got a rescued girl chinchilla and a rescued boy chinchilla for easter a while back and they bred and none of us had the heart to sell any of them but now, my mom understandably says that we need to sell them.
If anyone is interested in getting a baby chinchilla but feels bad for not getting a rescued chin, please consider a descendant of a rescued one. We have all colours and mostof common breeds so if you live near Napa Valley, or Palo Alto, California, please email me at jamilah.rose@hotmail.com

Thank you so much for this blog post. Nothing makes me angrier than seeing people in fur coats. It is absolutely disgusting that people think they need to kill 100 of these amazing creatures just so they think they can look good. If only they knew how amazing these creatures really are! It’s just so sad that humans think they can take advantage of such vulnerable creatures and makes me sad because the animals cannot do anything about it, just merely squirm while they are being held upside down and executed in their anal. I have two chinchillas and they are honestly the best thing that has ever happened to me. An owner does need to read up on chinchillas before getting one, but it sounds like you’re ready!! Sounds like you adore them, so what’s stopping you?

I got a pet chinchilla 2 years ago from my mothers boss it is cruel what people have done to them but having them as pets isnt bad Rocco is constantly hopping around my room and following me around he does his barking thing at me any time he wants to play or he runs out of food or water, they are very smart animals i would never wear animal fur and i agree that they belong in their natural habitats but some animals need attatchments and thats what rocco has i dont think he could survive on his own anywhere

I love your blog on chinchillas I have three of my own and understand you passion for them not being used to make coats. This is an informative blog. I hope one day you do get a chinchilla theya are so sweet and fun to have.

I love Chinchillas, i think are they are just beautiful.. but unfortunately i am from Australia and dont have them here, i dont understand why… they have chinchillas in New Zealand and we are basically neighbours. I would love to have a chinchilla as a pet….

Chins are so cute and I want one so badly! Unfortunately, none of the shelters in my area,( NOrtheastern PA) have them and I’d rather rescue one than get one from a breeder or a pet store. But, I guess I’ll just have to keep looking! and… you are absolutely right, chinchillas should not be hunted for their precious fur. Their fur is not our to take! I hope those poor chins get justice!
