Chinchillas History

There are a great number of cute, thrilling animals. I am fond of them. But also, there are some cruel people, who use every possibility to hurt these animals and to leave them without their fur antypical chinchillad, what is even more awful, without their lives!

Have you ever seen a chinchilla? Have you ever seen a coat made from it? Just imagine, a minute ago it was fluffy, small and kind creature and just in a nick of time it turned into a pelt, valuable and warm, but still a pelt! Five minutes ago this chin was breathing, coughing, eating, and playing with its toys and then… I hate it!

So, my main aim here is not only to tell you about chinchillas, but to draw your attention to their lives and dangers around them! Pay attention, they need our help! Actually, their history in America started exactly from poaching, they were chased because of beautiful fur and only after some years they became popular as pets. Uninteresting fact! Approximately 100 chinchillas are needed to make one coat. In the 19th century (China) they became even endangered. Nowadays, chinchilla’ hunting is prohibited by law! But it doesn’t stop some people from killing these animals!

Pair_of_chinchillas Chinchillas are very popular nowadays, they live both in Zoos, stores and even at homes! But there are some strangers, they still don’t know, how do chinchillas look! It is a tricky question, I can give a lot of descriptions, but than you will be puzzled, so, one, but all-absorbing: chinchillas are cute creatures familiar to big squirrels with huge ears (like Cheburashkas).

Chinchilla! This name is of Indian origin and can be interpreted as “little chinta”. These creatures came to us from South America and they are widespread in Peru, Bolivia, and Chile. Thanks to Mr. Chapman they appeared in our lives, namely he brought them to our continent. Firstly, they were sold to fur farms and later they became popular pets. They turned to be loving, devoted and kind pets. Chins are very neat and clean pets; they don’t have any specific smell. They can talk, but their sounds are amazing, while eating, sleeping, chewing something. One more interesting fact – chinchillas are night creatures, they spend the whole day at rest (I mean they sleep), but they are awake at night. So, you can visit discos with your favorite pet! He or she will not fall asleep! Also, if you don’t want to have a long-term friend – forget about chinchillas! They live up to 20 years! Chinchillas adore company and they hate loud noises, don’t even dare shouting on them, they will get upset and, as a result, your chinchilla will become quiet and passive. Their popularity rises every day. In our country chinchillas cost more than 400 dollars.

Chinchilla

Of course, there are some people, who do care about them, but those chinchillas, who live in Zoos and other enclosures are completely different form wild chinchillas living in natural conditions. There they prefer caves and rock clefts.

As for me, I have a get and a dog! I adore them! They are so funny! I have never had a rat, a hamster oк a chinchilla, but I was always dream to. May be one day I will get one and now I can only admire with their owners and look at their pictures!

Oh, Tiari, thank you so much for this passionate and warm answer. Chinchillas are really cute and they are hunted for fur. I think, it is no use to wear fur-coats unless you leave in an extremely cold country.

Thank you for your story, I have 5 Chins(mostly rescues), but is very important to save the wild chinchillas in their natural habitat and those who are in grave danger. Ours work as animal educators and we take them to schools and scout groups and anywhere that wants us.They are all so unique! Please help the many people like you that care and take some action! Croatia tortures chinchillas more than any other country. No animal deserves that. Join any of the rescue groups you like, just do something!

    Hey,

Just to tell you, chinchillas are great, I got one here at home, and I can’t even imagine for a second that anyone could do harm to such beautiful, cute and lovely animal.
I saved mine from death, 8 years ago, and now, he’s just so healthy, so strong. He’s great and cute, asking for affection. Just so lovely.
I can even state, without any mistake that he’s one of the best person I’ve ever met (I consider him as a person, he’s surely more human than we are…).
My chinchilla is my happiness, and if I’m ever feeling down, I go and take him in my arms, and he just cheers me up faster than anyone else could.

My sister just got a chinchilla the other day, a male named Zane. He’s two months old. I won’t be seeing much of him because my sister and I don’t talk much. He’s pure gray, and kind of shy. Mom and I checked him out yesterday. He’s adorable. I know little about chinchillas, but from what I have heard, they are lovely creatures. May all of your chinchillas live long and happy lives :)

I have 6 chinchillas. We started out with two and then they had a baby, so we got him a girl to keep him company and they had a baby! Then the first two had two more babies, the second couple had three more babies and then finally the first couple had 3 more babies. We should have separated them but the babies are so cute! We found good homes for all the girls and kept the 6 boys. I’ve learned how they care for their young and live harmoniously together (they sleep on top of each other and groom each other) and how fun they are to have as pets (I build them forts out of cardboard boxes to play in. They are friendly and fun to hold). I can’t believe what an abomination chinchilla fur coats are (or any fur coats for that matter) and feel that anyone who wears or makes them is evil.

Just thought I’d add a link to a video from YouTube. It’s a video of baby chinchillas. How could you turn one of those into a coat?

Chins are so cute and I want one so badly! Unfortunately, none of the shelters in my area,( NOrtheastern PA) have them and I’d rather rescue one than get one from a breeder or a pet store. But, I guess I’ll just have to keep looking! and… you are absolutely right, chinchillas should not be hunted for their precious fur. Their fur is not our to take! I hope those poor chins get justice! :)

I got a pet chinchilla 2 years ago from my mothers boss it is cruel what people have done to them but having them as pets isnt bad Rocco is constantly hopping around my room and following me around he does his barking thing at me any time he wants to play or he runs out of food or water, they are very smart animals i would never wear animal fur and i agree that they belong in their natural habitats but some animals need attatchments and thats what rocco has i dont think he could survive on his own anywhere
