Merry Christmas, dear friends! Just one more congratulation and a small story about Santa’s reindeer and reindeer as animals.

General Info

Reindeer is a wonderful animal that has 4 hooves (hooves are broad and flexible, thus they can walk and dig even in thick snow) and lives in the cold arctic tundra. It’s an incredible one ’cause it is capable of surviving in extremely cold weather and in places with awful food shortage. They are capable swimmers. Reindeer can be found in most parts of the world. They live in herds and on the go. These animals eat plants and lichens. Reindeer are the only deer that can be domesticated. Unfortunately, nowadays, their number has decreased due to hunting and their native places of living destruction. This kind of deer is very sociable, they live 12 to 15 years.

Nice reindeer

Santa’s reindeer

Actually, it’s a legend and it was created in a popular Clement Clark Moore poem - “A Visit From Saint Nicholas”, it was a Christmas gift for children (1822). Santa had 8 reindeer.

Reindeer and snow

Another version of Santa’s reindeer - the story of Rudolf the red-nosed Reindeer (1939, Robert L May).
