great info and advise AliCat... i really don't think you've offended any one, cuz what you said is absolutely right... we are hurting theirs and every other wild animals' chances of survival when we think that they make cute and exotic pets! but that's the problem... when they are little, they are cute and adorable, but once they 're grown its a different story!!! its just the way nature made them and no matter how hard we try, we can never give them enough freedom nor allow them to be themselves as nature would have! i live in nigeria, west africa and a few years ago my brother saw a bush meat seller by the side of the street selling a dead female duiker and her live baby... so he bought the baby, which turned out to be male. he was the cutest thing ever and after painstaking weeks, he survived. we had a pretty big house and he was broughtup like our other pets, but then he matured, his horns grew and suddenly he would attack the cats, dog and eventually us for no reason, and trust me his horns wern't made of plastic! eventually, since we cudn't release him in the bush, cuz of his trust of people nor wer ther any proper zoos here, we built an enclosure for him which limited his freedom.. he could no longer dart all over the place... and sadly he passed away 2 years ago at 7 years ofage! after that, the closest we've ever gotten to gettin a wild animal and taking care of it, are our 3 african greys! it's sad, but in the end what matters is when we care for and take in to consideration the needs of animals rather than let impulses ruin our responsible descisions

For all of you who think you would like one as a pet...believe me you don't. I work with one (at a zoo) and we raised him from two weeks old and I would never ever trust him in my house. They are still wild cats even if they are born in captivity. Also, something you might not think about, they have very oily coats to repel water and they leave that oil on everything. Wild cats do NOT make good pets and keeping them as pets (even if you buy a captive bred cat) only encourages people to take them out of the wild and hurts their chances for survival. Sorry if I've offended anyone but I am very passionate about this. And they are beautiful cats so I understand how looking at them you would fall in love.
