Frankly talking, I am really bewitched by this strong, beautiful and wild cat.
Taking into consideration that all cats hate & afraid water – the Fishing (Asian) cat is only the one who hunt its prey right in the river.

The fishing cat’s general distribution is southwest India, Sri Lanka, countries of the southern Himalayas, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Thailand, Burma, China, and the Indonesian islands of Java and Sumatra. Including birds and snakes, the favourite it’s dish is obviously FISH.
That is why, Nature providently gave to this cat non-retractile claws and, to catch it’s dinner, fishing cat is even able to dive on the bottom of the river. But in spite of scrappers reputation they avoid to face the people.

(Meww, do you want me to rub the wrong way?))
If you do, leave me your comments and you will get one of my kitten for free as a New Year’s present )

Is it really a cat?
Its eye is like a tiger.

i have a thai fishing cat (majority/crossbred with alley cat), she is themost gorgeous thing
Thanks, I think, your cat is a very nice one.
Neet looking cat, and a fisher to boot, great asset. This cat reminds me of tigers also, look at the nose, the dots on the wiskers, the stripes, they are like miniature tigers!! Oh well…all cats are beautiful, but this one looks like it likes a little meat now and then…lol.
Great pictures, great cat….I have a dog that doesn’t like swimming and she is from the water dog group, so go figure.

Yeah, you are perfectly right, this cat looks like a mini version of a tiger. Be sure, I will go and find more about your dog. Thanks for your comment!
It sure does look like a tiger. Thanks for your comment, on my site my dog is the black one in the middle of the header, her name is Whoopie, ( as in Goldberg) she is a Puli, which is a Hungarian Sheepdog, and part of the water dog family. She likes baths, and jumping in a lake but not in a swimming pool! She is a dear soul and my best buddy. Cheers to you and the cats, Teri

Unfortunately the second picture that you have up on this, is of an Asiatic Golden cat, not a fishing cat.
Love the shots, but your second one is of Temmnick’s golden cat, or asiatic golden cat.

For all of you who think you would like one as a pet…believe me you don’t. I work with one (at a zoo) and we raised him from two weeks old and I would never ever trust him in my house. They are still wild cats even if they are born in captivity. Also, something you might not think about, they have very oily coats to repel water and they leave that oil on everything. Wild cats do NOT make good pets and keeping them as pets (even if you buy a captive bred cat) only encourages people to take them out of the wild and hurts their chances for survival. Sorry if I’ve offended anyone but I am very passionate about this. And they are beautiful cats so I understand how looking at them you would fall in love.
thanks for this information dear )
great info and advise AliCat… i really don’t think you’ve offended any one, cuz what you said is absolutely right… we are hurting theirs and every other wild animals’ chances of survival when we think that they make cute and exotic pets! but that’s the problem… when they are little, they are cute and adorable, but once they ‘re grown its a different story!!! its just the way nature made them and no matter how hard we try, we can never give them enough freedom nor allow them to be themselves as nature would have! i live in nigeria, west africa and a few years ago my brother saw a bush meat seller by the side of the street selling a dead female duiker and her live baby… so he bought the baby, which turned out to be male. he was the cutest thing ever and after painstaking weeks, he survived. we had a pretty big house and he was broughtup like our other pets, but then he matured, his horns grew and suddenly he would attack the cats, dog and eventually us for no reason, and trust me his horns wern’t made of plastic! eventually, since we cudn’t release him in the bush, cuz of his trust of people nor wer ther any proper zoos here, we built an enclosure for him which limited his freedom.. he could no longer dart all over the place… and sadly he passed away 2 years ago at 7 years ofage! after that, the closest we’ve ever gotten to gettin a wild animal and taking care of it, are our 3 african greys! it’s sad, but in the end what matters is when we care for and take in to consideration the needs of animals rather than let impulses ruin our responsible descisions
i love cat fishing cat
